A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

This was sometimes a difficult read because of the subject matter, but that didn't make it any easier to put down. The story covers approximately the last 50 years of Afghanistan history. Even though I sympathized with the central characters, I couldn't help being frustrated by their lack of insight. Well written, and an enlightening look inside that culture.
