Ninth Butterfly In Progress

I've made some progress on this butterfly. Got the second upper wing finished and am in the midst of crocheting the edging on the first lower wing. Still the second lower wing and the body to go plus sewing all the pieces together. As with all the butterflies I've been crocheting, this one, too, is for The Butterfly Project.

Two Weeks

I liked this movie. The family interactions were true to life, especially the funny moments during such a difficult time. Sometimes that's the only way we can get through such situations. The actors were wonderful and did a great job portraying this endearing family.

Ninth Butterfly Started

I managed to get started on this butterfly and got one large upper wing completed and a little bit of a start on the second large upper wing. This wing is about as big some some of the whole butterflies I've already completed, so the completed butterfly may end up being as large as the first butterfly I made for The Butterfly Project, or maybe even larger. I just hope it's within the size guidelines, but hard to tell at this point.

It's difficult to see in this picture, but there is a row of green in this wing amongst all the blue and yellow. Maybe the green will be used in other places in the other components and be more easily seen when the butterfly is all put together.

I think my Silvie looks really sweet in this picture. She's lying on top of the bag that is holding my yarn and work in progress for The Great American Afghan.

Superman Returns

This movie did not recapture all the excitement of the original Superman with Christopher Reeve, but the original musical score sure helped, and it was still exciting and entertaining. Certainly Kate Bosworth was easier on the eyes and ears than Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. Kevin Spacey did almost as good a job as Gene Hackman playing Lex Luthor. And Brandon Routh was about the same as Christopher Reeve in the role of Superman. The effects were great. The story made sense, was easy to follow and played out well. Worth watching.

GAA-Priscilla Gibson-Roberts Square, Part 1

The gauge for this square is 22 stitches and 32 rows over a 4-inch square using the 'larger' needles (two needle sizes are called for in this pattern). I had to go down to size 4 needles in order to get this gauge, which means the 'smaller' needles for me are size 3, which is what I've been knitting with so far for this inner square pictured above. The pattern's suggestion for needle sizes is 5 and 6, but I couldn't get gauge with either one.

This inner square with the heart pattern on the right-hand side is knitted first. I'm one heart away from finishing this phase. Then, 40 stitches are picked up on all four sides of this inner square. In the picture you can see the provisional cast-on where the stitches are being kept 'live' on the bottom of the square. The square is then knit in the the round, mitering the corners to complete the outer portion of the square.

To finish this square, though, there is still embroidery and a tiny pair of socks added for embellishment. Now, the tiny pair of socks is causing me some concern since the pattern suggests size 0 double-pointed needles for knitting them along with the size 5 and 6 for the square itself. So, that seems to suggest that my gauge-required size 3 and 4 needles for the square are pointing to my needing to use size 000 double-pointed needles for the tiny pair of socks. I think I've heard of that size before, but I sure don't have any that size, so I suppose I'm going to have to start looking for them.

Knocked Up

I didn't feel completely comfortable typing 'Knocked Up' as a post title, but since I've been titling my little movie review posts with the movie title, I figured I might as well continue.

This was a very funny movie. I laughed a lot! The language was pretty bad and it's definitely for adults only, but the overall story ended up being surprisingly very sweet and positive. Ryan Seacrest makes an appearance, and so does Steve Carrell.

Eighth Butterfly Completed

I think this butterfly turned out really pretty. Probably a lot of that has to do with the thread, which is Aunt Lydia's size 10 in the Pastels colorway. I do like the pattern, too, though--very lacy looking. I used a size 6 steel hook for this butterfly. The pattern is actually a doily pattern with different versions. The butterflies are to go all around the outer perimeter.

I did have a problem with the pattern where there was an error in the instructions for the joining of the wing components. If you ever want to try this pattern, it might help to look at this picture. The thing to keep in mind is that it is the three loops on either side of the point of each of the four wing components that are the joining loops where each component joins to its neighboring wing component and to the body. The centers of these wing components are kind of shaped like a candy corn, and you need to make sure the point of that candy corn shape is pointed toward the body.

Another confusing thing from the very start is that the body is made with only one antenna (feeler) . It is only later, during the process when all the wing components are being attached to the body, that the second antenna is added.

The Painted Veil

I liked this movie. The story was believable, and I liked the cleverness of Edward Norton's character. The setting was of historical interest, and there were enough likable characters to make it enjoyable to watch. I never ceased to be amazed at how many different types of characters Edward Norton can effectively portray.
